There is a topic (http://citysec.org/forums/1/topics/28) called HoMeSec for the Houston Metro area, but no one is replying there anymore, so I am starting a new topic for it. I think it needs to be renamed to BayouSec. If the original posters have any issue with this, let me know so we can work it out.

I am going to post to my blog that this is getting started. I will also be talking to some people locally to get this moving.

No issues with the name here, I’m still up for it and have a couple co-workers that would come depending on the day of the week.

I actually prefer the new name. I’m game, providing I have no schedule conflicts. I’ll be sure to spread the werd.

Also prefer the new name “BayouSec”. As stated earlier, this is the Bayou City!

OK, sorry for disappearing on this. Just been crazy busy. I also had to get some confirmation on some things to make this go forward. So anyway, I am actively working on this now. I am looking for some places to gather everyone together. Right now I think this should be informal, so it should be a place where we can all fit but at the same time be able to have a nice close gathering where everyone can get to know each other. If you have some suggestions, please let me know.

For time frame, I am thinking sometime in late August or mid-September, but I am not sure that will give enough time to get the word out. Let me know what you think. I am totally open to suggestions right now.

I like the new name “BayouSec” too. I can definitely come to a meeting in August, though on the last week of August I will be out of town. Is there any preference on a day of the week, time, place? Is the week of August 12 or 19th cool, say on a Monday or Tuesday? As far as a location, I am not sure where a good place might be.

Would downtown be the most centralized location, or could we shift more north, and where would be a good location?

I have a target date of Sept 12 right now. That gives us a month to get the word out. I know I have been jacking with this for two months now, but things are really just starting to clear up for me, so I can get this on my calendar.

I am thinking more along the lines of the Galleria area. Maybe Dave and Busters. They have a lot of room. Or there is that Jillian’s on I-10 and 610. That’s not too far away from the Galleria, and it has a lot of room as well.

jelandry,

I just sent you an email. Every time I set a date something has gotten in the way. I am planning on the end of September now. I still think Jillian’s or Dave and Buster’s would be the best choices because of the space available. If you have any of your own ways of getting the word out, please do so. I am working on my end to get the word out as well.

And how do we make this sticky?

Avatar Michael Farnum 14 posts

Well, the first BayouSec is in the can. And I am going to go out on a limb and say it was successful. We had 8 people (including myself) show up. I think for the first one that is not bad. I am not going to give up on it, that is for sure. Dave and Busters was a good place. We just stayed at the bar by the door since we didn’t have too many people. I’ll write more about it on my blog.

The next BayouSec is going to take place at the new Alert Logic location on March 5 starting at 6pm. They have some conference rooms we can use. 1776 Yorktown, 7th floor. Just south of the Marathon Oil tower on San Felipe.

We are goign to start making this a tad more formal as far as having an event to draw people in. There will be food and drinks as usual, but I would like these to be somewhat more educational if possible.
